A direct, line-item answer to "what does this cost?" — for every common sprinkler service across the GTA in 2026. Every number on this page comes from our published rate card. No hidden trip fees, no markup on retries, no per-truck-roll surcharges. The same rates apply whether you're in Newmarket, Aurora, Vaughan, Toronto, or anywhere PJL routes to in a normal week.

How much does sprinkler repair cost in the GTA?

The service call is a flat $95 — that covers mobilization and on-site assessment only. Repair labour is billed separately at $95. Common parts: head replacement $68, pipe break repair from $120, wire diagnostic from $187 in the valve box.

The piece that surprises most homeowners: the service call does not include labour. The $95 gets the truck to your door and pays for a tech to walk the property, identify what's wrong, and write a quote. Repair labour starts after that — billed at the hourly rate against the time the repair actually takes.

Every repair quote we write is built on an estimated time. If the on-site work runs over that estimate, we stop, tell you, and re-quote the overage at $95 before continuing. You're never surprised at the invoice.

The repair lines we run most often:

ItemPrice (CAD)
Service call — mobilization + on-site assessment$95
Repair labour (per hour)$95
Sprinkler head replacement (any size, any type)$68
Pipe break repair (up to 3 ft of 1" pipe)$120
Wire diagnostic & simple repair (in valve box)$187

What does it cost to fix a leaking valve?

When any valve in a box fails, PJL replaces the entire manifold and all valves in that box together — never a single-valve patch. Quote = manifold tier ($135 for 1-3 valves, $285 for 4-6) + ($74.95 × valve count) + the $95 service call, plus repair labour at $95.

This is the rule that bothers people the most when they first hear it. If only one valve is leaking, why rebuild the whole manifold? The honest answer: in our experience, when a valve fails on a 10-to-20-year-old manifold, the others are within a year or two of doing the same thing. We've come back too many times for the second, third and fourth valves to keep doing single-valve patches and call it good.

What that looks like in real numbers — parts and trip, before any labour:

  • 1 valve in a 3-valve box: $135 + $74.95 + $95$304.95
  • 3 valves in a 3-valve box: $135 + (3 × $74.95) + $95$454.85

Labour is added on top at $95, scoped to the estimated time on-site (most manifold rebuilds run 1.5 to 3 hours depending on access). The whole-box quote is sent before any work starts and only proceeds with your approval.

How much does a new sprinkler system cost?

Tier 1 (1-4 zones) is $585 base + $549 per zone. Tier 2 (5-7 zones) is $749 base + $549 per zone. Add-ons such as a dedicated $210 garden-bed drip zone or a $185 planter drip zone are priced separately. Estate-scale systems (8+ zones) are scoped on-site.

A representative residential install for a typical GTA suburban lot:

  • 4-zone front and back lawn (Tier 1): $585 base + (4 × $549) ≈ $2,781 before any add-ons.
  • 6-zone with a back-garden drip overlay (Tier 2): $749 base + (6 × $549) + $210 drip add-on ≈ $4,253.

That's the all-in install cost: Hunter heads throughout, Hunter HPC-400 Hydrawise smart controller, pressure-regulated heads where the design needs them, and our 1-year guarantee on the workmanship. Larger estate systems — common in North York's Bridle Path and Hoggs Hollow, where designs frequently run 12 to 20 zones — are scoped on-site because the slope, canopy, and hedge-line routing matter too much to quote sight-unseen.

What do spring startup and fall winterization cost?

Flat-rate residential pricing covers the system check and standard adjustments. The $95 service call is NOT charged on top. 1-4 zones $90, 5-6 zones $105, 7-8 zones $120, 9-15 zones $165. 16-plus zones are custom-quoted. Fall closing matches the same tiers.

Seasonal service is the one area where our pricing model is different from the repair structure. The flat fee covers the full system check, alignment, arc and rotation adjustments, controller programming for the season, and the walkthrough. You pay the published tier price and nothing else — unless we find a separate repair that needs your sign-off as its own quoted line.

What does a smart controller upgrade cost — and is it worth it?

Hunter HPC-400 Hydrawise retrofits run $595 for 1-4 zones, $750 for 5-7 zones, and $1,195 for 8-16 zones — all-in, including the install. Payback comes from weather-skipping and leak alerts. Use our water cost calculator to model the savings against your actual zone count and watering schedule.

The Hydrawise upgrade is one of the few jobs we run where the payback is actually mathable. The controller knows the local weather forecast and skips zones when rain is expected. It runs every-other-day instead of daily when humidity is high. And — most importantly — it sends a leak alert the moment a zone's flow rate spikes outside its baseline, so a stuck valve doesn't water your driveway for three weeks before you notice on the bill.

PJL is Hunter Hydrawise certified, which is the closest thing this industry has to a "the installer knows the system" credential. The install itself is usually under 90 minutes on the wall. The savings model isn't a fixed claim — it depends on your system size, watering schedule and water rate. The water cost calculator lets you put your own numbers in.

Why does PJL publish its pricing when most competitors don't?

Because trust starts before the call. The one real discount we run is the AI-Smart-Intake bonus: if our AI diagnostic correctly predicts the on-site fix, one hour of repair labour is free. If the AI guesses wrong, no free hour — pricing is honest both ways. Note: PJL does not service backflow assemblies; that is a separately licensed Ontario trade and we refer out.

Two principles run through the entire rate card:

  • Same price everywhere we route. No Toronto premium, no Newmarket discount. The $95 service call is $95 whether the address is in Aurora or in Forest Hill. The drive time is on us.
  • The published rate is the rate. Every customer quoted from the same numbers, every line item explained before any work starts.

The AI bonus is genuinely the only standing discount. We run an AI intake tool that asks you about symptoms and predicts the most likely root cause. If the on-site fix matches that prediction, you get one hour of repair labour off the invoice. If the prediction is wrong, the AI gets nothing — and so do you. The model is accurate when it should be and honest when it isn't.

One last bit of honesty: PJL does not service backflow assemblies. Backflow testing and certification is a separately licensed regulated trade in Ontario. If yours needs annual recertification or repair, we'll refer you to a certified backflow tester. We don't pretend to do work we're not certified to do.

The bottom line

The shortest version of this guide: repair = $95 service call + labour billed against an estimate; seasonal = flat-rate, no service call on top; new install = tier base + per-zone; smart upgrade = single all-in price. No travel surcharges across the Toronto and York Region service area.
