📍 Erin & Hillsburgh 🚐 Scheduled weekly route through Wellington County 🛡️ 3-year warranty

Erin's irrigation contractor for acreage and equestrian properties.

Erin and Hillsburgh sit in the foothills of the Niagara Escarpment in Wellington County — equestrian country, 3-25 acre lifestyle properties, century farmhouses on country roads. The irrigation problem here is nothing like a city subdivision: most properties are on private wells, lots are big enough that overhead spray alone is rarely the right answer, and frost lines run deeper than they do down on the lake plain. A system designed for an Aurora subdivision will fail in Erin within two seasons.

PJL Land Services has active customers across Erin and runs the corridor on a scheduled regional route — Bolton, Caledon, Erin — typically one or two days per week during the season. We batch installs, seasonal openings, and winterizations into those route days rather than charging panic-call prices for emergencies.

The Erin-specific challenge: well water

Most Erin properties draw irrigation water from the same well that supplies the house. That changes everything. Zone count, run time, and pressure are dictated by the well's GPM and recovery rate — not by lawn area. A poorly designed system can short-cycle the pump (premature failure) or pull the well dry by August. We measure your well's actual output before quoting, then size the system to match it. Pressure-regulated rotors and slow-soak cycle programming do the rest.

What's Included in a PJL Spring Opening — Erin

Every spring opening in Erin includes a full 10-point system check before we leave your property:

  • ✓ Slow-pressurize the main supply line to prevent water-hammer damage to PVC fittings
  • ✓ Test each zone individually for correct pressure, coverage, and rotation
  • ✓ Check every sprinkler head for winter damage, misalignment, or clogged nozzles
  • ✓ Adjust arc and throw on rotors and pop-up sprays for full coverage
  • ✓ Inspect the manifold and valve box for cracks, leaks, and solenoid faults
  • ✓ Verify the Hydrawise (or other smart controller) Wi-Fi connection and program
  • ✓ Set the seasonal watering schedule against the GTA's clay-loam soil profile (well-property pump output if applicable)
  • ✓ Confirm rain-sensor function (where installed) — required for water-bylaw compliance
  • ✓ Flag any backflow assembly issues for referral to a certified Ontario backflow tester
  • ✓ Walk you through the system and answer any questions on the spot

Backflow testing is a separately-licensed trade in Ontario. PJL does not service backflow assemblies but can refer you to a certified tester if yours needs annual recertification.

Erin Sprinkler FAQs

When should I open my sprinkler system in Erin?

In Erin, the safe window for spring opening is typically the third week of April through late May, after the last hard frost — a touch later than the GTA proper because the Headwaters area runs a little colder and risks frost further into the month. We batch Erin onto regional route days — book early in March to lock in your preferred week.

What does sprinkler repair cost in Erin?

Our service call (mobilization + on-site assessment) is $95. Repair labour is billed at $95 from there. Common parts costs: sprinkler head replacement $68, pipe break repair from $120, full 3-valve manifold rebuild starting at $135 plus valves. If our AI-Smart-Intake diagnostic tool correctly predicts the fix, you get one hour of repair labour free on the diagnosed work — our only standing discount.

Do you offer same-day sprinkler repair in Erin?

Erin sits on a scheduled weekly Wellington County route, so same-day is not the default — we batch Erin repairs onto scheduled route days. For an active leak we'll do everything possible to get out the same week. Book 1-2 weeks ahead for non-urgent repairs to ride a regular Wellington County route.

Are there watering bylaws in Erin I need to know about?

The Town of Erin's Lawn and Garden Watering By-law (#98-14) restricts municipal water for outdoor use to assigned days and times. Even-numbered addresses may water on even calendar days only, odd on odd; the permitted windows are 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. The rules apply to lawns, gardens, vehicle washing, and pool filling. We program controllers to comply — and note that properties on private wells fall outside the municipal bylaw.

How deep do sprinkler lines need to be buried in Ontario?

The Ontario frost line is approximately 1.2 metres (4 feet), but irrigation lines don't need to be buried that deep — they're drained and pressurized only during the warm months. PJL buries mainlines 8–12 inches deep and laterals 6–8 inches deep, which is standard for southern Ontario. Fall winterization (compressor blowout) is what protects them from freeze damage, not depth.

Can you upgrade my existing system to a Hydrawise smart controller?

Yes — Hydrawise retrofits are one of our specialties. Patrick is Hunter-certified through Hunter University, and we install Hunter HPC-400 Hydrawise WiFi controllers on existing systems regularly. Pricing: $595 for 1–4 zones, $750 for 5–7 zones, $1,195 for 8–16 zones, all-in. Typical install takes under 90 minutes.
